Jan 8th
As the makers of Zbrush, Pixlogic has released a free and easy to use 3D sculpting software named Sculptris. Sculptris is basically a stripped down version of Zbrush but it has enough options and flexibility to make is useful and a joy to use. The interface is nicely designed and even the most novice computer user would feel comfortable with creating sculpts in no time. Starting out with a round ball of clay or an imported OBJ model Scuptris allows you to push, pull, and manipulate objects like clay in the real world. Sculptris also has 3D painting, texturing, Auto UV mapping and material options. Just in case that’s not enough there is a GoZ option which seamlessly lets you use Zbrush in conjuction with Sculptris.
Marek Denko’s Amazing 3D and Compositing Reel
Jul 17th
Marek Denko | Retrospective reel | Selected Works 2003-2010 from NoEmotion.Net on Vimeo.
The first thing I need to say is that Marek Denko’s has been leaving me aw for some years with his art but when I saw his retrospective reel it absolutley blew my mind. Not only being an amazing 3D Max artist, Marek has a real talent in bringing his work to life with some great compositing and shot work. At first glance this video may seem more of a compositing reel using some live action elements mixed with 3D but after some research on Marek’s website http://marekdenko.net/ almost everything is done with 3d Max and V-Ray. Please enjoy and I hope you feel as inspired as I do to hopefully create a Demo Reel of this caliber some day.

MK12 makes heavy use out of the Trapcode Particular plugin for After Effects which is a definite wish list item for any Adobe AE user. Besides the technical motion graphics masterpiece that TELEPNONEME is, the short also demonstrates how graphics and a good soundtrack can tell a story without the need of actual charachters.
